The ultimate guide to onboarding your team in Orbital

Welcome, new Orbital Ambassador! This step-by-step guide will help you and your team get the most from your new galaxy. In this toolkit, we’ll cover:

Pins with desk and lounge area

Invite team members

Inviting people to your galaxy is quick and easy using your galaxy’s unique Invite Link. Copy it from your galaxy’s Manage screen, or from your left sidebar in the app. Anyone with this link will be able to sign up directly to your galaxy.

Install the desktop app

Keep Orbital handy at all times by installing our desktop app.

Open Google Chrome and go to Click on the install button to open a Progressive Web App which can be pinned to your dock or saved to your desktop.

Customise your galaxy

Pins are an easy way to organise your space and mark breakout areas. Some examples of the types of pins that Orbital teams have added:

  • Departments like Marketing, Development, Product, etc.
  • Projects for example, Blog Redesign, Referral Program, etc.
  • Meetings such as Daily Standup, Town Hall, etc.
  • Social Topics like Lunchtime, Movie Buffs, Foodies, etc.

Some teams like to create pre-defined conference rooms that they can pop into, just like if they were located in the office. Check out these ideas for naming your conference areas. Get creative! You can even mimic your office space with pins like Break Room, Rooftop, Boss’s Office, etc.

Schedule recurring times to meet in the galaxy

Some teams like to leave their galaxy open in a tab during their whole work day. Others pin a link to their Slack or other productivity apps, and just pop in when they want to chat.

Either way, we recommend having a few key items in the calendar each week, to help form the habit of being in your galaxy together.

  • What traditions do we have each morning?
  • What meetings do we have each week that could take place in Orbital?
  • What social events do we participate in together?

Try to find opportunities to use Orbital daily, to help everyone become comfortable with the tool. We’ve pulled together our favourite Slack bots and reminders, which you can copy and paste right now, to keep your remote team engaged.
